Landis Award Night 2006The EAA Major Achievement Award recognizes individual EAA members for their personal commitment and contributions to EAA, EAA Chapters, their fellow EAA members and the recreational aviation community as a whole. There are about 170,000 EAA members, and only 10 awards are presented each year. In 2006, our own Landis was presented with the award.
Members had been surreptitiously collecting information about Landis´ aviation career for months, before submitting it to the national headquarters in Oshkosh, WI. At our members meeting on Sept. 12, 2006, Jesse Krall, who had accepted the Achievement Award plaque on Landis´ behalf at the EAA AirVenture 2006 airshow, presented the plaque to Landis. Members, family and friends enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation on his life, listening to Landis talk about his various employments, his aircraft building projects, and his involvement in the building of the fly-in-community "Indian River Aerodrome". After the meeting, those present enjoyed comradeship, coffee and the special EAA Chapter 99 cake.
